The RGM-79SP GM Sniper II was one of the last variants of the GM constructed during the One Year War. The RGM-79SP GM Sniper II borrows most of its design from the RGM-79G GM Command, including arguably the best-looking variation of the GM Head. The RGM-79SP GM Sniper II was the most dominant variant of the GM built during the One Year War, but because of the high production costs saw limited production. The RGM-79SP GM Sniper II could utilize projectile and beam weapons thanks to an upgraded generator. On paper, the RGM-79SP GM Sniper II was more powerful than the RX-78-2 Gundam!
Here’s what Bandai included alongside the HGUC RGM-79SP GM Sniper II:
- 75mm Sniper Rifle
- 90mm GM Rifle
- Shield
- Beam Saber x2
- Draken E
Articulation –
The RGM-79SP GM Sniper II pairs several well-designed points of articulation with a sturdy and familiar build to create a stellar HGUC entry! The RGM-79SP GM Sniper II uses double-jointed elbows to allow the model to hold its Sniper Rifle properly. Firing from a knee is made super easy by the double-jointed knees and thigh swivel! These updates to the joint structure provide the RGM-79SP GM Sniper II with a very dynamic look upon completion. Even the teeny Draken E has some simplistic articulation in its arms and legs!
Weapons and Other Notable Attributes –
This HGUC rendition of the RGM-79SP GM Sniper II features the Franz EF-KAR98k 75mm Sniper Rifle, named after the Karabiner 98k German service rifle used during WWII. The 75mm Sniper Rifle fires projectile rounds which are unaffected by magnetic forces and solar winds, giving a targeting advantage over similar Beam-powered weapons. The rifle’s bolt-action mechanism made it terrible at engaging enemy Mobile Suits, so the HGUC RGM-79SP GM Sniper II also includes a 90mm GM Rifle to defend against enemy attacks. For close-quarters engagements, the RGM-79SP GM Sniper II includes a pair of Beam Sabers stored on the back skirt armor.
